Albuquerque Raindrop Hosted 2012 Kurban Eid& Republic Day Celebration


The Turkish- American community celebrated Sacrifice Festival (Kurban Eid) and anniversary of the declaration of the Turkish Republic at the Raindrop Turkish House in Albuquerque. People from Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Socorro gathered early in the morning for the special bayram prayer in their best clothes. After the bayram prayer, adults greeted one another wholeheartedly; children honored the hand-kissing custom (kissing an adult's right hand and placing it on one's forehead as a sign of love and respect), while wishing their elders kids got special presents and gifts along with sweets and a bayram tip. Following the prayer and greetings, all the participants enjoyed bayram breakfast which was sponsored by a local businessman, Ahmet Tiryaki from Albuquerque. Children were surprised and happy when they got special prepared gifts. Children also enjoyed piñata game. At the end of the breakfast, firstly the executive director of RDTH welcomed people and mentioned a little bit about “sacrifice eid” and “republic” day of Turkey. He said that “on October 29, 1923, the Grand National Assembly proclaimed the Republic of Turkey. Atatürk was named as its President, Ankara as its capital, and the state of Turkey was born”. After this , everybody stood up and sang the national anthem of Turkish republic. Following, Ahmet Tiryaki presented a gift to Sueda Cetinkaya from Albuquerque School of Excellence who got the first place nationwide at the Shade Foundation’s poster contest 2012. After that, Dr. Sayavur Bakhtiyarov presented another gift to Devrim Tiryaki for his success on entering to University of NM. It was an unforgettable day for everybody.

The First Turkish Cooking Class at Raindrop Albuquerque
The 1st Turkish Cooking Class was held at Raindrop Turkish House in Albuquerque, NM. Participants were very interested in learning different and delicious recipes. KISIR, FARDEL BOREEK and SEKERPARE DESSERT were taught at the first class of fall semester 2012. At the end of class everyone tasted those food and dessert.
The guests watched the class with deep interest, asked questions, took notes on their recipes given at the beginning of the class and tried to cook by themselves. After the class, participants shared their opinions about Turkish Cuisine class.
They enjoyed, not only learning how to cook them, but also having lovely conversation during the preparation of the delicious meals with other ladies.

Raindrop Turkish House Hosted Albuquerque Police Department
Raindrop Turkish House Albuquerque hosted an Annual Friendship and Engagement Dinner with Albuquerque Police Department Southeast Area Commander Mike Geier and his team on Friday, September 28, 2012. Before the dinner, the night started with welcoming of guests by the Executive Director of Raindrop Foundation Abq. Following, guests enjoyed the delicious Turkish cuisine. After having the dinner, Executive Director of Raindrop gave some information about Raindrop, its mission in Abq, previous- future events and made a presentation related to these topics. The event continued with a presentation of Turkey.
At the end of the event, Ahmet Tiryaki, one of the local Turkish- American businessmen presented a gift to the Southeast Area Commander Mike Geier to show our appreciation for jeopardizing their lives for the well-being of the community in Albuquerque. After the program guests continued to have conversation and exchanged their information for further dialog and friendship.

Hurricane Sandy Victims Need Your Help Immediately

sandyhurricane1We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the damage because of the Hurricane Sandy at the US East Coast. Hurricane Sandy that is the largest Atlantic hurricane on record is a tropical cyclone that severely affected Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States on October 29, 2012.The cyclone brought a destructive storm surge to US East Coast , flooding numerous streets, tunnels and subway and cutting off, especially Zone A areas near waterways which were issued evacuation orders. Severe damage occurred in New Jersey and New York, especially in the communities along the Jersey Shore. According to the records, hurricane-force winded as high as 90 miles per hour (145 kph).
